Christian Science found me when...

Christian Science found me when I could gain no relief from a depressed attitude unnatural to me. At the time two faithful medical specialists were trying to improve my general health in the belief that the cure for the depression lay therein. Through the study of Christian Science I have gained both good health and freedom from depression.

My first healing took place at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, which I attended somewhat reluctantly. I had suffered for several days and nights from a large sty on the upper eyelid. Medical aids seemed only to aggravate it. When I returned home a member of the family who had witnessed the condition was amazed to see nothing whatever but a sound eyelid. The gathering had not broken. The sty had simply disappeared before the power of the truth which was read from the desk that night.

It is hard for me to describe the heavenly comfort and aid to spiritual progress which I have gained from church membership. Many obstacles to my becoming a member presented themselves until I finally saw that man has actually no choice to make, because progress is God's law of salvation, which can never be set aside. I learned that the joy of obedience to this law cannot be humanly measured. The kindly, steadfast love of Christian Science friends, practitioners, librarians, and those serving in church offices has been a beacon light to me at all times.

With the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner I was instantaneously healed of an advanced case of shingles. A rectal fistula was cured, though more time was required for this. I have also experienced other healings through radical reliance on Truth, including that of a felon on the finger.

Because I have been healed of depression through Christian Science I know that no one need fear depressing suggestions, no matter how severe or seemingly hopeless his condition may appear to be. God has already bestowed on man, His beloved son, dominion over all. Our inspiring hymns have healing power that transcends the deepest gloom, and the Christian Science periodicals are helping us to keep our footsteps in the way our Master trod.

I wish to express heartfelt gratitude for some measure of growth in grace; for some understanding of our Father's all-power and eternal goodness and of man in His image and likeness; for greater honesty, purer motives, less impulsiveness, and less impulsiveness, and less criticism.

I believe that my own lifelong yearning to help sufferers aided me in finding Christian Science, for Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 1 of our textbook, Science and Health, "Desire is prayer." Serving our Cause, even in small ways, has blessed me immeasurably.—(Mrs.)Prudence Wood Coulter, Chicago, Illinois.
