When I was about a year old and was afflicted with pneumonia, because there was little hope for my recovery my mother turned resolutely away from matter to Spirit, and I was healed while she was reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

The family doctor, who had stayed overnight at our home because of his deep concern over my critical condition, was amazed when he saw my great improvement in the morning and asked my mother what she had done. When she told him what she had been reading all night, he said quickly, "Then keep it up!" She did that very thing and devoted the remainder of her life to the Cause of Christian Science.

Until I was twenty years of age I attended the Christian Science Sunday School. It was not, however, until I had become the mother of two children that I awakened to the need of becoming a consecrated student. I realized as never before how much I needed God's arm to lean upon and His hand to guide me. The time had come for me to work out my own salvation. Like a tired child I turned to the arms of divine Love and found them opened wide, waiting to receive me.
