Many years ago I was suffering...

Many years ago I was suffering from tuberculosis and had been advised by physicians to seek a different climate. I was never in greater need of physical healing, and the doctors had given up hope for my recovery. But God made His presence known to me and in a most remarkable manner.

One day while I was shopping in a market, a book was left on the seat of our carriage, but by whom I do not know. It was a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At the time, I knew nothing of Christian Science or of Mrs. Eddy. At first when I read the book I could not understand it. Each day, however, I continued to read a little more of it. One day when I seemed most discouraged, I turned to page 263, where Mrs. Eddy writes, "When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven." I was greatly uplifted because I had caught a glimpse of the light of spiritual understanding. and from then on I began to improve.

Two years later there came a testing time, and it was an opportunity to prove what I had learned in Christian Science. I was attacked by blood poisoning. The pain was so intense that I felt impelled to see a physician, who upon examination said that he could do nothing for me, that I had waited too long; and he gave me three days to live. He wanted to send me to the emergency hospital, but I declined, stating that I had all the help I needed. I was not fearful and went home. My wife and I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I declared the absolute nothingness of the whole situation. Then the pain began to recede. I retired and slept well all night; and in the morning the pain had left, the swelling was nearly gone, and the discoloring had begun to disappear. The complete healing was soon manifested.
