"REPENT YE"
The public ministry of Christ Jesus began with his admonition to repent. The Scripture reads (Mark 1:15), "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel,"
Because of his great spiritual goodness and insight, the Master understood both the omnipotence of God, good, and the powerlessness of evil. He brought to earth the warmth and glow of his compassionate God-likeness—his spiritual tenderness, wisdom, and love—to show us by demonstration the way of redemption from materialism. The desire to follow the great Teacher's instructions has measurably changed the course of men's thinking for the better throughout the intervening centuries, even though the spiritual demands of repentance have not always been fully recognized.
With what joy we learn in Christian Science that the kingdom of God, infinite good, is within us, is presently available through individual spiritual development, through discernment and proof. Following Jesus' dictum, this Science declares that heaven is a spiritual state of consciousness, in which is perfect peace. It shows that salvation from sin, sickness, disease, and death is to be gained through practical repentance, which includes putting the rules of the Master's doctrine into operation in our lives.
