JIMMIE STANDS HIS GROUND

Jimmie was just four years old when he learned that hurts and sicknesses will go away when you are not afraid and face them with the truth. One day his ear hurt very much. His mother reminded him that in the Christian Science Sunday School he had learned that God never made a pain and His child could not have one. She said if she and Jimmie really knew this, the pain would go away. But the pain seemed so bad that all he could do was to cry.

So a dear friend who was a Christian Science practitioner came over to see Jimmie. She told him one of his favorite Bible stories—the story of David and Goliath—and asked who would have won the fight if David had run away from Goliath. Or, in an earlier story, what would have happened to David's lambs if he had run from the lion and the bear. Jimmie could see that David hadn't been afraid, however big and terrible the lion, the bear, or the giant Goliath looked.

"Do you know why he wasn't afraid of them, Jimmie?" the practitioner asked. "It tells right here in the Bible."
