It is with a deep sense of gratitude...

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I tell of the healing, protection, and guidance I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. Some years ago while nine of us were driving in a car on a narrow, steep grade in the mountains the car turned over. As a result of my mother's clear realization of the presence and power of God, we were beautifully protected.

Some months later when I became ill with a severe case of polio my family called a Christian Science practitioner at my request. Because of their fear, however, they also called a physician; but I insisted upon Christian Science help alone. Although afraid of the outcome, they dismissed the doctor, who maintained that I would not live until morning.

The devoted practitioner was in our home five days and nights, standing with God and helping my loved ones to do so. On the fifth day, a Sunday, at what seemed to be the darkest hour the practitioner asked my family to sing Mrs. Eddy's hymn beginning, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14). Then she read the forty-sixth Psalm. When she came to the words, "God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early," I turned over and went quietly to sleep. All present knew that victory had been won. My recovery was rapid, and the healing was soon complete.
