Humbly and gratefully I tender...

Humbly and gratefully I tender this testimony of a healing experienced many years ago solely through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

My health had become impaired, and a medical diagnosis indicated that I was suffering from Blight's disease. Gradually this ailment became worse. The medicine I had been taking over a long period of time had no healing effect whatsoever. A chemist informed me that I had already taken far too much medicine and advised me not to take any more.

At this stage my wife was told that I would not recover. Much fear was expressed because of this startling pronouncement. However, "man's extremity is God's opportunity." By a happy circumstance I saw in a local newspaper a notice advertising that Christian Science services were being held in our city. This claimed my immediate attention, and I was impelled to make inquiries. The result was that a friend who was a member of the local branch church placed a copy of Science and Health in my hands. I immediately began reading this precious book, and I shall never forget the spiritual uplift which I received from the first lines in the Preface (p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." The words "sustaining infinite" gave me a feeling of confidence, I then and there felt that I could trustfully lean on God, whereas for years I had been fearfully leaning on a broken reed —nonintelligent matter.
