Incidents—Newly interested students

One young man told a Christian Science chaplain he heard Christian Science services being announced one Sunday morning over a loud speaker at a naval training center, so "decided to investigate." He has since been a regular attendant at the services. He said he enjoyed these because "the readings from Science and Health explain so clearly the meaning of the Bible."

Another newcomer who had been attending Christian Science services regularly was ordered to appear before a board composed of officers and doctors and chaplains to be considered for possible discharge because of "unsuitability." The young man had been classified as a "poor performer." He told the Christian Science chaplain he feared being discharged and asked for help in Christian Science. A remarkable change in altitude took place over a period of about two weeks. When the serviceman appeared before the board, he was the only man to be retained out of twenty-two similar cases that were considered that day. The young man was soon placed in a regular training assignment, which pleased him greatly.
