About the year 1912 a kind...
About the year 1912 a kind neighbor presented me with a copy of The Christian Science Journal. I read some of it, but not understanding what I had read, I returned it. However, about ten years later, while engrossed in the cares of our family of five children and in their education, I suffered from a serious ease of nervous prostration, which kept me in bed for more than a year.
During this time I was attended by the best medical doctors and chiropractors in our town, but all they could promise me was a life of invalidism, saying that I might live ten sears more but would not be able to engage in my former activities. This was a time of deep despair, as I had been an active member of an orthodox church. I was a firm believer in prayer and prayed to God constantly for understanding. My prayers were answered when I turned to Christian Science.
A family had recently moved into our neighborhood, and they attended a Christian Science church a few miles assay. About the same time our county paper published an account of a Christian Science lecture. As I was unable to read it, my husband read it to me. I was interested in a section of it relating to fear and how to overcome it. The lecturer referred to the Bible verse (I John 4:18), "There is no fear in love; but perfect lose casteth out fear." I invited my new neighbor to come and tell me if she thought Christian Science could cure me. She said lovingly: "God healed me in Christian Science. He is no respecter of persons and can heal you."
