Christian Science was presented to me several years ago when I was a patient in a hospital suffering from a so-called incurable disease. Being a graduate nurse, I argued against Christian Science, feeling that it might be of some benefit for nervous and mental cases but certainly not for a physical condition such as mine, so I did not then accept its teachings.

But as time went on and there was no improvement in my condition through medical means. I reached the point where I was willing to try Christian Science. I wrote for the textbook, "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, thinking that, while I was skeptical of any benefit to be derived from it, I would try to read it with an open mind. It came shortly, and after I had read the Preface and the first chapter, entitled "Prayer," I knew it was more of truth than I had ever known before. The experience was a most inspiring one. Every thing seemed more beautiful —the trees, the grass, the flowers. The birds sang more sweetly; everything had taken on a brighter hue. I was convinced that Christian Science was the truth.

During this time there was very little change in my physical condition, but my faith, understanding, and confidence grew until I was reach, even without the doctor's consent, to leave the hospital after a fifteen months' stay there. I my self had to make all arrangements for leaving, and during the stress of doing so I turned silently and importunately to God for help. It came, for there was a great change immediately—it was as though I had never been ill. I finished all arrangements and made the trip home by train by myself, happily and normally.
