TRUTH REVEALED AND PRACTICED
"Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 174). How good it is to know that we are the recipients of this revelation of the truth of God, man, and the universe and have been given the means, through the understanding of Christian Science, to demonstrate man's oneness, or unity, with God, with everything that is good.
One dictionary meaning of the word revelation is "God's disclosure or manifestation of himself or of his will to man, as through some act, oracular words, signs, laws, etc." Christian Science is the law of God, ever operating to uphold, control, and govern man, God's image and likeness. What a debt of gratitude we owe to Mrs. Eddy for her receptivity to God's revelation of Himself, which brought about her own healing and with it the desire to give to the whole world the power of the Christ-healing. To this end she gave three years to the study of the Bible, searching for the rule of Mind-healing. She writes in Science and Health (p. 109): "The search was sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing. I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration."
Several times in her writings we find the words revelation and reason conjoined. Let us always remember to thank God that Truth is already revealed and endeavor to practice it in our own experience. Let us remember, also, to reason only from the standpoint of spiritual perfection. We can never reason from a problem, but through right reasoning, based on the fact that "the Lord he is God [good]; there is none else beside him" (Deut. 4:35), we can prove problems, whatever their nature, to be delusions, hallucinations, without either presence or power, shape or outline, form or color, quantity or quality, will or purpose.
