Christian Science came to me at...

Christian Science came to me at a time of great need. Although I was seeking healing for a loved one and not for myself, a severe pain in my chest, which medical science was unable to diagnose or relieve, disappeared, never to return. At the same time my small son was healed of indigestion, from which he had suffered since birth. He was also healed through absent treatment by a Christian Science practitioner of inflamed eyes, a trouble which had manifested itself every summer.

I was only a beginner in Science when my mother passed on, but the loving work of a practitioner thousands of miles away freed me completely from any sense of grief or separation. During the Second World War my little son and I were wonderfully protected. Although I was a foreigner in this country and one of the so-called enemy, I was allowed to lead a free and normal life and met nothing but kindness and consideration on every side.

I should like to tell of a healing which proved to me that the Word of God is indeed quick and powerful. My son, who was then about thirteen years old, was brought home one day by his friends in a state of semiconsciousness. He had slipped on the ice and struck the back of his head with great force on a stone step. As he lay on his bed, a terrible fear filled my thought. I was alone in the house, and there was no telephone. With trembling hands I picked up the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and prayed for guidance as I opened it. The question. "What is man?" and the answer were there before me on page 475. As I read and pondered, the fear left me completely, and at the same time the boy fell asleep. In about ten minutes he awoke and got up, saving that he was perfectly well and ready for his lunch, and he ran to school in time for his next lesson.
