I am very grateful for many...

I am very grateful for many blessings received through the understanding of Christian Science. When I first attended a Church of Christ, Scientist, I wanted to become a member right away. I soon learned, however, that I needed first to overcome the smoking habit. This had a strong hold on me. and I was not willing to give it up. But after studying the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, especially the chapter on Prayer, and particularly the statement (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds," I was healed instantaneously at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. Other errors were healed as well.

In the first World War, I was wounded by shrapnel. Several pieces entered my head, and one piece lodged on the jugular vein in my neck. The doctor advised me not to have it removed. About the time I began my study of Christian Science in earnest, the piece of shrapnel, which had been in my neck some years, began to trouble me. I spoke to a friend who is a Christian Scientist, and she asked me to read on page 62 of Science and Health the following lines: "We must not attribute more and more intelligence to matter, but less and less, if we would be wise and healthy. The divine Mind, which forms the bud and blossom, will care for the human body, even as it clothes the lily; but let no mortal interfere with God's government by thrusting in the laws of erring, human concepts." Soon afterward, when I was preparing to go to the Thanksgiving Day church service, the piece of shrapnel came out of my neck, free of blood and without leaving a scar.

Many difficulties have been overcome since then. I am grateful for class instruction, which enabled me to get a better understanding of the Bible, for membership in The Mother Church, and for an active part in a branch church.— Percival Edwin Prees-Thomas, London, England.
