Signs of the Times

Cyril H. Jones in a sermon in The Christian World Pulpit London, England

A few weeks ago I got into conversation with a complete stranger about the world situation, and he made a surprising remark. It was surprising, because he was so emphatic. He said that politics would not put the world right ... the world's saving grace was the Christian church. He said the church with its worship, fellowship, and Christian love and understanding would do far more good for this world than any other method you might try. I agreed with him wholeheartedly, because he's right. It's the spirit of man that has got to be changed before any hope of lasting peace and understanding can be achieved. ... "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts."

These words plainly show how people are to live—the only way they can possibly live. The first essential is the Spirit of God. Without that, no amount of material equipment is of any real value.
