I became seriously interested in...

I became seriously interested in Christian Science at a time of domestic unhappiness. I attended the services of a Church of Christ, Scientist, but did not seem to be making much progress until an acquaintance, a Christian Scientist, showed me how to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. She also recommended that I subscribe for and read the Christian Science periodicals, and I did this. Within a year much progress had been made, and I had become a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church.

At this time I was healed of catarrh without specific work having been done; in fact, it was some time after the healing had taken place that I realized I was entirely free from this annoying ailment. I was also freed to a large extent from a habit which I had had since childhood, that of worrying about the safety of loved ones.

One night, when I had not heard from a loved one who had been expected home a day or two earlier, in deep, unhappy concern I opened the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read from the Glossary the definition of hell, which was what I seemed to be experiencing. It reads in part (p. 588), "Self-imposed agony." I was instantly freed of all concern; and though this one did not return for another two days, I went about my affairs with joy and complete freedom from worry.
