Although greatly in need of physical healing, I did not begin the study of Christian Science for this purpose. In fact, I was so convinced by doctors that I could not be healthy that it did not occur to me to seek healing through metaphysical means. At that time I was suffering from tuberculosis of the lungs, an abnormal kidney, stomach ulcers, and a bowel disorder. X rays confirmed the diagnosis of a lung specialist that the lower half of each lung was gone and that the disease was spreading into the upper half.

At that point, twenty-four years ago, my husband suggested that I look into the subject of Christian Science, because a friend of his, who was a Christian Scientist, expressed so much peace of mind. This I too was seeking, and so I began attending the Christian Science church services.

Just before we were to leave for the South, I contracted a cold and was filled with fear because of the doctor's predictions. However, I recalled having heard at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting a statement to the effect that one spiritual truth understood could bring healing.
