TRUTH'S UTTERANCE

Truth is God, and the voice of Truth speaks to this age through Christian Science, Love's healing, redeeming, comforting law. This voice is reaching those who are ready to receive the message that God's creation is spiritual, not material, and that matter and evil have no actual existence. Mary Baker Eddy heard this message in a time of great trial, and she recognized its practicality and power when she found herself suddenly healed of an injury that had threatened her life. She says of the Science she discovered in that momentous hour (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 323), "It is the 'still, small voice' of Truth uttering itself." And she says further, "We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher."

Truth utters itself, proclaims its truthfulness and reality. Truth declares its own perfection and allness through its ideas. It speaks of wonders of goodness and love, of beauty and action, of color, form, and substance unseen to the corporeal senses, but ever radiant throughout eternity in the expression of infinite harmony. Truth's voice resounds throughout the universe; it never ceases speaking. And its message of man's immortality, sinlessness, and immutability is coming to men with the penetration of resistless power, informing, guiding, inspiring them in ways of righteousness.

Isaiah heard Truth's voice crying in the wilderness of human despair, and he records (40:6): "The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is as grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field." Then came the words, "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." At various times there have been spiritually-minded men, those attuned to divine good, who have warned mortals of the frailty of human life, and who have striven to turn humanity to the Word of God, the power of goodness, and the stability of uprightness; have urged men to awaken to the truth of being at hand, to forsake vice and apathy, and to live as sons of God, governed by Him and secure in Him.
