"THE ONLY RULE"

Those struggling with some form of human discord may take assurance from the fact that there is a dependable means of establishing harmony. It is not a material remedy, which many perhaps eagerly, perhaps despondently, seek, but a spiritual remedy, which has been available to mankind ever since Christ Jesus said (Matt.11: 28), "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." While this is an unqualified and definite promise, it has sometimes been thought to apply solely to the healing of sin, and not to the healing of any other discord. However, there is actually no such limitation.

The Science which Jesus so effectively practiced in overcoming sin, disease, and death, came to this age as a spiritual revelation to one who was ready to receive it—Mary Baker Eddy, who named her discovery Christian Science and presented this final revelation of Truth to the world in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

On page xi of the Preface to the textbook Mrs. Eddy writes, "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation." From this it is seen that the healings of Christ Jesus were not miraculous, but were the natural result of his understanding and demonstration of spiritual laws, before which sin and suffering faded from human consciousness as unreal. These laws can be proved just as dependable today.
