The opening statement of the...

The opening statement of the Preface to Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy reads (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." It is with a great sense of gratitude that I offer this testimony in substantiation of the above statement.

Several years ago the fingers of one of my hands were caught in a door jamb and severely crushed. I immediately put my hand in my pocket, declaring the ever-presence of God. By the time I had reached my home the pain had just about ceased, and when I looked at my fingers, they had regained their normal shape. I worked in my garden most of that afternoon, and I returned to my work the next morning completely free.

One morning, while I was building a fire, the furnace backfired and seriously burned my hand. I was able to prepare my breakfast, although the pain was severe. I read a part of the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly as best I could and started out for my place of business. When the clerk in charge saw my hand, he released me, and I came home knowing the truth concerning the operation of God's law. I returned to work the next morning free from pain, and in a few days was entirely healed.
