Christian Science came to my attention...

Christian Science came to my attention when I was a young girl. I had a skin eruption, which had spread until it covered almost all of my body and was most annoying. It was hoped this would disappear with the passing of warm weather. However, it became more aggravated and was finally diagnosed by a physician as eczema. An acquaintance recommended that I try Christian Science treatment. I had never heard of this Science before, but after I obtained my parents' consent, treatment was arranged for, and in the course of a few weeks I was completely and permanently healed.

Although I did not take up the study of Christian Science at that time, the healing seed had been sown in my consciousness, and in due time it sprang up. Severe colds were one of the trials of my youth. These always affected my eyes, and during these times it seemed imperative that I spend some time in a darkened room. I was taking tablets for the colds, and in thinking about it I was candid enough to see that the medicine was not producing a healing or any lasting good effect.

About this time I was transferred to one of the large cities on the Pacific Coast. I here I met a number of Christian Science students and began to attend church services. I had been wearing glasses for a number of years for an eye trouble. When visiting the World's Fair in San Francisco, I was offered a Sentinel by an attendant at the Christian Science exhibit. I declined the gift at first, explaining that I was giving my eyes a rest while I was on my vacation. Then she asked me, "Do you think it would hurt your eyes to read of God?" That was a new idea to me, so I accepted the literature and later read it.
