One day when I was scheduled...
One day when I was scheduled to introduce a luncheon speaker at a gathering of several hundred persons, I awoke with a sore throat and a voice hardly louder than a whisper. In reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, I came to the words of Pilate (John 18:38), "What is truth?" Immediately I thought, "This claim of error is not truth, never was truth, never can be truth." From that moment I realized man's perfection as the reflection of God, and I was healed. I went about all my duties of the day entirely free.
More recently, while I was helping a group of people open a camp for girls, a mattress thrown from a loft landed on my head in such a way that something snapped in the back of my neck. It appeared to be a dislocation of a vertebra. Immediately I declared, in the words of Mrs. Eddy from "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Also I declared the facts that everything in God's universe is in its right place and nothing but good has ever happened to man.
Holding to these truths, I was able to continue the work without arousing any concern among those with whom I was working. At home alone, I went to work silencing mortal mind's suggestions of pain and discomfort. Feeling I should call for help, I telephoned a practitioner, but she was not available.
