As long as I can remember I...
As long as I can remember I have had a great desire to know God, but one year prior to my introduction to Christian Science I prayed earnestly each night for a better understanding of Him and of my relationship to Him. While I was confined to my bed during the influenza epidemic of the First World War, a wonderful thing happened. A Christian Science practitioner who was doing emergency nursing because of the scarcity of nurses was called to my bedside and told of my alarming temperature. Through her comforting words and clear perception of the truth I received an instantaneous healing.
I soon realized that this woman was demonstrating the truth for which I had been searching all my life. I then borrowed her textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and took up the study of Christian Science. At that time I had been bothered with stomach trouble for some time and weighed only ninety pounds. Then one day I knew that I was healed and went out and ate a normal dinner. That was the end of the difficulty. I had been frail and sickly all my life, and I had a great fear of death. These conditions also disappeared.
After this experience I had more beautiful healings and made much progress in the study of Christian Science. However, some years later I was unable to attend church services for some time and allowed my thought to become dull and heavy. One day I became greatly annoyed by some neighbor's children and dogs; and as I stooped to pick up something to chase a dog with, I threw my hipbone out of joint. A neighbor called a practitioner, and during the time she was working for me I saw clearly that I had been entertaining a wrong concept of man.
