It is with a deep sense of gratitude...

It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I relate the following experience. In 1942 I had an accident in which my head was badly injured, and I was taken to a hospital in an unconscious condition. A friend informed my wife and offered to take her to the hospital where I was. She at once called a Christian Silence practitioner, and metaphysical work was taken up for me.

When my wife reached the hospital, she was told by the doctor that I was in a very serious condition, that I had a fractured skull and a brain injury, and that it was doubtful if I would recover. This happened on a Friday morning. On the following Monday I regained consciousness, and my wife remained with me constantly, except for short periods when she was relieved by some of our church friends. I experienced no suffering or pain whatsoever.

In two weeks I felt able to leave the hospital. The hospital authorities objected to this, however, on the grounds that although they were amazed at my recovery, they felt I should remain under their observation for some time because of the nature of the case. They felt a sense of responsibility, since they believed that my removal from the hospital might mean sudden death. Nevertheless, I insisted that I be allowed to leave and consented to sign a release assuming full responsibility for the consequences.
