Christian Science has been such...

Christian Science has been such an integral part of my existence that I cannot help feeling an eagerness in submitting my testimony. This eagerness is not based on a recent spectacular healing or a sudden influx of blessings, but rather upon an increasing realization of how much I owe to Christian Science and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

From the time I was eight years old until about a dozen years ago, I received many blessings through metaphysical help. Relief from discord was gained almost entirely from the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, since I did very little to co-operate. I now realize that I was looking for the loaves and fishes and was not awake to the need for the spiritual regeneration which Christian Science brings. Then inharmony of a domestic situation brought its agony and disillusion. Home, business, and what seemed to be material success, all vanished in one fell swoop.

My heart goes out in special gratitude at this time for the loving guidance of the practitioner to whom I turned for help. First he taught me the futility of trying to use God for mere selfish purposes, and the great gains to be had in letting Him use me. He pointed out the material-mindedness of using tobacco and of social drinking, to which I was addicted, and the great spiritual growth which would follow their discontinuance. He helped me overcome these obstacles, but I found myself in the midst of a great battle. Whenever I complained of mortal mind's obduracy, he would always answer, "I never said it was easy," implying that success was definitely possible, but only after one had proved oneself worthy of healing.
