Christian pilgrims across the centuries have found enduring inspiration in two of the towering chapters of the New Testament. One is the lyric of love which Paul wrote to a divided church at Corinth. The other is the epic of faith in the epistle to the Hebrews, who, in their century, faced conditions not unlike those of our own turbulent times.

What is this divine, driving force that sends men on long pilgrimages of hope, that admits of no discouragement or defeat, that steels men's souls against heavy odds, that helps them possess their promised lands, and that enables them to achieve the impossible?
