A LESSON FROM NOAH

The Biblical account of Noah and the ark has been a household story for centuries. Simple in presentation, yet deeply metaphysical in application, it has appealed to child and philosopher, poet and metaphysician, alike. The metaphysician will dig deep into the spiritual meaning of this story, and in the light thrown upon it by Christian Science he will see and be able to apply the spiritual truths it contains.

Noah was a good listener. He listened to the voice of God. He was also spiritually-minded, for he heard God's voice. Through his understanding of spiritual existence he was enabled to foresee the doom of materialism and to provide a way of escape. Noah was also a builder and a worker. He was not content to be idle or lukewarm concerning God's work. He had his part to take, and he did it well. What a wealth of spiritual ideas is reflected by this meek, honest, and obedient patriarch!

Here the emphasis is on the word obedient, for it was only through absolute obedience to God that the floods of materialism could be overcome. "Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he," we read in the Bible (Gen. 6:22) "And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation" (Gen. 7:1).
