MAN'S PROTECTION IS HIS DEMONSTRATED RIGHTEOUSNESS

As they observe the world-wide stir that appears to be taking place in human consciousness, Christian Scientists are actively aware of its spiritual and metaphysical significance. They recognize the evidence and irresistible potency of the Christ, or spiritual idea. They understand the effect that it has made on human thought since its revelation in 1866 by Mary Baker Eddy. They are not, however, surprised at the evidence of chemicalization as human consciousness is being leavened by the activity of this omnipotent and omnipresent truth of being.

Mrs. Eddy graphically describes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the silent yet powerful effect of Truth as it uncovers and destroys error, the suppositional opposite of good. On page 559 she writes: "The 'still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.' It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. It arouses the 'seven thunders' of evil, and stirs their latent forces to utter the full diapason of secret tones."

The Christian Scientist's perception of the reality of being, of the infinite perfection and allness of good, and of God's omnipresence, enables him to keep thought lifted above every suggestion of fear and alarm that the mortally mental picture would try to impose. Abiding peacefully in the certain realization that being is one and all-harmonious, the spiritually scientific thinker is undisturbed by chemicalizing sense testimony. As the prophet Isaiah wrote (Isa. 33:15, 16), "He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly ... he shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure."
