"BEHOLD, WHAT MANNER OF LOVE"

THE fact that "the scientific statement of 'being" from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 468) and its correlative Scripture from the third chapter of I John (verses 1-3) are read each Sunday in every Christian Science church service indicates that our Leader felt them to be of vast importance. However, because these are heard so frequently, there may be a tendency to listen to them as a matter of course or just from habit, instead of attentively pondering their deep meaning.

There is no more concise, conclusive statement of reality than "the scientific statement of being." Here Mrs. Eddy sets forth the unreality of matter and the unconditional statement, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Then, having stated with absolute conviction the irrefutable truths of being, she concludes with the unqualified divine facts: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."

Earnest students meditate often and prayerfully on this brief but cogent "statement of being," for to understand it is to behold creation as it truly is: God, or Mind, the one creator, infinitely expressing or manifesting Himself in creation, or "infinite manifestation." To comprehend true being is to be conscious of present perfection; it is to be unfooled and unfettered by materialism in any of its phases.
