I should like to take this opportunity...

I should like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I am indeed grateful for the teachings of our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, for the inspired, practical example he has given us, and for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, who was divinely inspired to give this revelation to the world for the healing and saving of mankind. Of many beautiful healings I should like to mention one of mental surgery that I experienced over four years ago, which might be encouraging to someone in need.

An uncomfortable physical condition, which appeared to be gas on the stomach, had disturbed me for some time. It was quite annoying whether I ate or did not eat. I worked for myself as we are taught to do in Christian Science, but I did not get any relief; in fact, the condition gradually grew more severe. When the thought that the difficulty was a swollen rather than a gaseous condition presented itself, I became fearful and realized that I must get busy and meet the condition. I was not in pain, but did feel very uncomfortable.

A member of the family suggested that I have a physical examination to see what the trouble was. I explained that I did not want to go to the doctor as I would not be willing to follow the instructions given or accept the treatment he would offer; also, the report of the examination might cause more fear and would make the condition difficult for me to meet in Christian Science. I was confident that the error would be overcome.
