WITNESSING TRULY

When questioned by Pilate as to his status, Christ Jesus did not deny that he was a king, but declared that his kingdom was "not of this world." Then he stated positively his life purpose as follows (John 18:37): "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."

Bearing witness to the truth was indeed his lifework. Every healing which he accomplished, including his own resurrection, can be traced to the fact that he knew the Life of man to be God. He perceived the fundamental truths that God is Spirit and that because man is made in His image and likeness his consciousness and individuality are spiritual. He understood and demonstrated that the idea of God reflects all the qualities of Life, God such as harmonious action, vigor, vitality, wisdom, grace, integrity, completeness; that this idea, man, exists at the standpoint of opportunity and expresses divine intelligence. Each idea is secure under God's inviolable law, which permits no "shadow of death" to darken the eternal consciousness of His beloved son.

Jesus, bearing witness to this truth as a faithful demonstrator of God's love, dispelled fear and restored countless men and women to health and harmony. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says of our Master (p. 54): "In witness of his divine commission, he presented the proof that Life, Truth, and Love heal the sick and the sinning, and triumph over death through Mind, not matter. This was the highest proof he could have offered of divine Love." Through Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the Science underlying Jesus' healings, we too can bear witness to the truth, even as Jesus did, by healing ourselves and others.
