How often I have wished it were...
How often I have wished it were possible to express in words my gratitude for the countless blessings that have come into my life through the application of Christian Science as taught by Mary Baker Eddy. In my experience there have been many complete and permanent healings.
Some years ago I was suddenly stricken with inflammatory rheumatism, and for weeks I lay burning with fever, unable to move so much as a hand or a foot. Earnest, sincere work was done in Christian Science, but the suffering increased. The members of my family were not Scientists. Naturally they were greatly disturbed, and each one went to his physician and described what I was going through. Each in turn was told practically the same thing: that for me to live seemed impossible, but if I should, I would never walk again, Finally a practitioner in a distant city was called by telephone. She immediately took up the metaphysical work and soon took the train and came one thousand miles to my bedside. Not once did the unwavering faith of that worker in the healing power of God falter, and in a short time the healing began.
In less than two weeks it was possible for me to take a few steps. Three days later I journeyed the one thousand miles to the home of that faithful worker. The experience was not always easy, but gradually I found my complete freedom and after several weeks returned to my home city absolutely healed. That was nearly twenty years ago, and I have never had a touch of rheumatism since that time. A year later, when my mother's physician was attending her, he referred to my illness and remarked that my hands seemed quite normal. "But," he questioned, "what is the condition of your feet?" When I told him that they were as normal as my hands and that I was wearing a pair of shoes which I had used before the illness, he said, "It seems incredible; but from the way you have been hurrying around, it must be so, and I consider your recovery most extraordinary."
