Internal injury healed; facial bones reset by mental means

Although I am deeply grateful for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science, two healings which involved mental surgery will always remain outstanding to me.

Several years ago, after prolonged swimming in very rough water, I experienced a painful internal injury. By holding to the truth that because man is spiritual he cannot be subject to material so-called force or power, I was able to perform each day's tasks. Finding, however, that I could neither stand any length of time nor walk any distance without pain, I finally asked a practitioner for help. Relief came at once; but whenever I engaged in strenuous activity, the suffering returned. It was then I realized that I must work out the problem alone and destroy the fear, latent in my thought, arising from the belief that a member of my family, not a Scientist, had been obliged to give up a happy avocation because of a similar injury.

For several days I prayerfully studied the definition of man in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 475–477), especially the statements (p. 475), "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." and, "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique." One day, at the end of a week's time, I was suddenly aware that in addition to my standing most of the day, I had also taken a walk of six miles with perfect freedom. The healing was permanent.
