Growth disappears; influenza overcome
It is over thirteen years since I had a testimony printed. All the healings enumerated therein have remained permanent. During the eighteen years I have been interested in Christian Science I have earnestly prayed to gain spiritual understanding in order to progress. About three years ago I discovered that a small but hard and deep growth which had been on the ball of one foot for thirty years had disappeared.
I was once involved in an accident in which my head was seriously injured. I was taken into the house of a Christian Scientist, who read to me for ten minutes from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I then left, took a train journey, carried out my business, and returned home many hours later. The pain was intense throughout the day, but seemed apart from me. That night I could scarcely bear to touch my head to the pillow, but I firmly declared over and over that error had no past, no present, and no future, I fell asleep, and in the morning I was healed. I attribute that quick and remarkable healing to the fact that on the morning of the accident I had felt impelled to study with special care Article VIII, Section 6, of the Manual of The Mother Church, in which Mrs. Eddy declares that every member of The Mother Church shall each day defend himself against aggressive mental suggestion, and to the spiritual understanding of the Christian Scientist whose reading: helped to break the mesmerism.
In 1946 I was healed of a violent attack of gastric influenza. For a few hours I was unable to read or even think collectedly. Slowly I began to say the Lord's Prayer and to read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. Quietly an inspiring thought came: Joy heals! As I tried to register joy, a little more of the mesmerism was dispelled. After an hour of prayer and meditation I suddenly remembered an important engagement. I shot out of bed, dressed, and hurried off to catch a train. At first I was conscious that my body seemed feeble, but I had to run to catch the train; and that was the end of the gastric influenza.
