"FEED MY SHEEP"

"Feed my lambs," the Master said.
Sweet, joyous task!
Selfish indeed who would not feed
Milk of the Word to lambs that ask—
Appealing, unafraid.
What joy to fill their need!

"Feed my sheep," commanded he.
So heavy, dull!
Earth's tangled fleece is covering
Hearts aching, bitter, sorrowful.
No lamb's engaging plea
Do these world-weary bring.

"Feed my sheep," he said again.
Oh, loving call!
Teach us the love that he did feel
Who touched the leper shunned by all
And knew the sinner's pain.
Teach us to love and heal.
