Opportunities Afforded by Christian Science Organizations in Colleges and Universities
Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has, in Article XXIII, Section 8, of the Manual of The Mother Church, provided for the needs and spiritual growth of Christian Scientists who are attending colleges and universities. There are now about one hundred Christian Science Organizations listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal, and they are located on campuses in many parts of the world.
Christian Scientists in college do not always know of the existence of an organization on their campus. Again, there may be a number of Christian Scientists on a campus which has no organization. Our Leader understood the good which can be accomplished by these organizations, and it is wise and profitable for us to utilize that for which she has made provision.
Through attendance and participation in Christian Science Organizations, those with common aims and interests are brought together and useful friendships result. Opportunity is given for activity which is good preparation for branch church work later on. The testimony meetings furnish inspiration and practical help in solving daily problems of all kinds. There are many other benefits which might be mentioned, and it is hoped that this message will remind all students and faculty members who are also students of Christian Science of the opportunity they have of making contact with the Christian Science Organization which may be located at the institution where they attend or teach. If there is no organization there, steps may be taken to organize a group of Christian Scientists in this way. Certainly the benefits will be many as Christian Scientists at colleges and universities realize the importance and helpfulness of association with Christian Science Organizations.
