My first healing in Christian Science...
My first healing in Christian Science was accomplished solely by reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had been injured in a mining accident, and after many months of treatment by surgeons I was told that I could never regain proper use of my right hand and arm and also that I would have to avoid exposure to cold weather. During this period my attention was drawn to Christian Science, and I started to read Science and Health. In a few months my hand was almost normal in appearance, although complete freedom from discomfort and pain came only after months of study. At the same time I was freed from constipation, and the healing has been permanent.
I continued my study, reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly daily and all of Mrs. Eddy's writings many times. My progress seemed slow, for many problems remained unsolved; but the first healings served as an inspiration to me to carry on. Later I enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, passing a number of physical examinations without a medical officer detecting that I had ever been injured. Soon after my enlistment I began to see positive proof that Christian Science meets our needs when it is properly applied. I received rapid promotion and was assigned to interesting and useful work. It is of interest that I served in weather as cold as thirty five degrees below zero and never felt any ill effects.
After I was sent overseas, I encountered conditions which made it nearly impossible to read the Lesson. Each day I did the best I could under the circumstances, and in about three weeks I was assigned to different work and given an office for my sole use. In this office I had not only privacy during working hours, but also the unrestricted use of it outside my working hours. I was moved twice after this, but each time found that I had privacy for study, proving to me that once a demonstration is made, there is no need to repeat it.
