"Grace and Truth are potent...
"Grace and Truth are potent beyond all other means and methods." So writes our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 67 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I am grateful to testify that I have proved the truth of this scientific statement.
About four years ago, while seeking employment, I had to take a medical examination. The examination showed evidence of a potential hernia. I was rejected by two business concerns because of this condition. One concern advised me to have an operation and the other to take up another line of business. The position for which I had applied and for which I was qualified by experience involved the occasional lifting of weights of seventy-five or one hundred pounds, and it was considered that this lifting would not help the condition. However, I was accepted for the same type of position by a third business institution, which required no medical examination for employment.
I felt confident, from previous experience in the application of Christian Science, that divine Truth was equal to overcoming this suggestion of mortal mind. In addition to my own work, I asked for some treatment by my mother, who was a Christian Science practitioner. The following statement from our textbook (p. 337) was very helpful to me during the experience: "In proportion to his purity is man perfect; and perfection is the order of celestial being which demonstrates Life in Christ, Life's spiritual ideal." I continued for over two years in this business position and experienced no physical discomfort or ill effects. I felt assured that the condition had been healed.
