Christian Science first came to...
Christian Science first came to my attention in 1922, when I was healed of a badly sprained instep. This healing was brought about through the reading of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, by a friend of mine who was then only a young student in Science. So little did I know of Christian Science that to me it was a name only, and it was not until several years later, when I took up its study, that I realized I had received an almost instantaneous healing.
Several years after this, while following my profession, I was performing in a large city. A property man threw a prop into the ring past my horse's nose, causing her to swerve so suddenly that I was thrown violently to the ground. In putting out my hand to save my face, I dislocated my right elbow. My employer insisted that the show's doctor look at my arm. After the examination the physician said, "Come back in the morning, as we probably shall have to take you to the hospital." When I arrived at our hotel, my husband called a Christian Science practitioner.
That night I slept soundly, and the next day I was able to do all that was required, except a solo which was not in the contract. Two weeks later I was able to do the solo, although my arm was crooked. At this time my sister and her husband, a nurse and doctor, respectively, came to visit me. While they said nothing to me, I learned later that my sister had written my mother that my arm would never be straight again. However, I am happy to state that today my arm is normal.
