TURNING AFFLICTION INTO A BLESSING

In his second epistle to the Corinthians (chapter 12) Paul writes of the wonderful revelations he has received, and then he says that in spite of all that has been revealed to him, he was suffering from a condition because of which he has entreated the Lord three times that it might depart from him. As he strove to overcome or find relief from the discordant condition, an angel message from infinite Love came to him in the following words (verse 9): "My grace is sufficient for thee."

Paul often had found that the unfoldment of Truth in consciousness was met by an opposing argument of the human will which had to be subdued by the grace of God until the Mind of Christ subdued the claim of a mind at enmity against God.

Reviewing this experience and the lessons he learned from it, he declares in all humility, "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." Mary Baker Eddy has taken these words of Paul's as the text of one of her Bible Lessons, and she tells us in an article in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 200) that his statement is susceptible of proof in every experience we may pass through.
