"OUR ANGELIC MESSENGERS"

The subject of angels has long been one of deep interest to students of the Bible, many of whom have glimpsed something of their spiritual import. However, it remained for Mary Baker Eddy, through her spiritually illumined vision, to reveal to the world their divine nature. Prayerful study of all that she has so beautifully written on this subject shows us that angels are exalted thoughts which unfold to the receptive human consciousness the healing presence of the Christ.

On page 299 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," under the marginal heading "Our angelic messengers," our Leader defines angels and explains their office. Angels, or true thoughts, reveal man as spiritual and perfect, safe from fear, sickness, and want. Their presence brings divine inspiration and wisdom, joy, comfort, and confidence to the consciousness awake and receptive to the overture of angels.

In the second chapter of Luke's Gospel we read of the angel message of peace which appeared to the shepherds in the Judean hills while they kept watch over their flock by night: "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." This was a moment of great import. The prophecies were being fulfilled, the promised Saviour—he who represented the Christ—was born. The watchful shepherds heard what every sincere seeker for Truth prays daily to hear, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
