In the words of the Psalmist (Ps. 27:13),...

In the words of the Psalmist (Ps. 27:13), "I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." Christian Science came to me when I had lost all joy in living, and it opened the way into newness of life. Although I had known about this Science for several years, a subscription to The Christian Science Monitor about seven years ago was my first step toward becoming actively interested. One morning after reading the religious article in the Monitor, which explained the truth about man in the image and likeness of God, I suddenly realized for the first time that, as understood in Science, which reveals our true identity, I was that man. As a result I was completely freed within a very short time of the smoking habit, so much so that when I tried to continue I was surprised, for the desire had left without my even knowing it.

I am extremely grateful for the patient work of the practitioner who guided my first doubting footsteps into Christian Science. Truly was it demonstrated that "the chaos of mortal mind is made the stepping-stone to the cosmos of immortal Mind" (Unity of Good by Mrs. Eddy, p. 56). I am also grateful for all the love and tolerance extended to me by local church members. When assailed by doubt and fear, I found the Reading Room a veritable shield. I could always go there for comfort and reassurance. It was a great struggle to turn completely to God for physical healings, especially for our little daughter, who had been under the monthly care of a pediatrician. Later the beautiful truths which she brought home to my husband and me from the Christian Science Sunday School strengthened us and led us onward. Soon I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and began to enjoy the uplifting experience of serving in the Sunday School. I was healed of a great feeling of inadequacy when it was lovingly explained to me that we are "all taught of God" (John 6:4-5).

Another milestone was the birth of our young son. We relied radically upon Christian Science and were lovingly protected during the entire experience. I should like to express our humble appreciation for the consecrated work of the practitioner at that time. The birth was remarkably quick and harmonious, and it was painless. There was not a moment when I had any need of or desire for an anesthetic. I am also grateful for the co-operation of the Christian Science nurses in the maternity home and the attending physician, who recognized the operation of Truth. At some time in the months preceding this experience a small, hard, external growth, once partially removed by surgery, completely disappeared.
