WORDS TO THE CHRISTIAN INQUIRER

An inquirer does not go far in his investigation of the teachings of Christian Science without asking the question, "What is God?" It is a question which every student of this Science is ready and willing to answer. It is often answered by pointing out the definitions of God as given on pages 465 and 587 of the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

The Bible tells us a great deal about God, and Christian Science derives its teaching about God from the Bible. The definition of God on page 587 of Science and Health reads as follows: "God. The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."

A definition of God would not be of benefit unless we made use of what it includes; in other words, God must become practical. To take an illustration. Suppose a friend minutely described a beautiful house. The house would be of little use unless we entered it and began to enjoy its amenities. So it is with God. We must love Him in order to live in and understand Him.
