BETHESDA

(John 5)

O sick humanity, rise from your bed and walk!
Why do you wait the moving of the waters?
That which disturbs and purifies and heals
Comes from within.
Why do you yearn with superstitious longing
For the fair future wherein good shall be?
Did not the Master say that Life abundant
Means to know the Father, and yourself His son?
Heaven is within.
For here and now the angel moves the waters
As in your heart the thoughts of God abound.
You are not sick, invalid, poor, frustrated;
Shake off your sloth and wretchedness, and now
Arise and walk!
