THE CHRIST TENDERLY AND DIVINELY TALKS

In The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, one has the happy assurance that at every Sunday service he will hear one of the inspirational hymns the words of which were written by the Christian Scientists' loved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. On the Sundays when the congregation does not sing one of these hymns, the soloist will use Mrs. Eddy's words in a solo setting. So in The Mother Church and in hundreds of its branches throughout the world, each Sunday of the year one may hear the announcement from the First Reader's desk that the words of the hymn or solo about to be sung were written by the revered Leader.

And what healing messages does each of these precious poems contain! Should they ever be omitted from a service because they are becoming too familiar, or possibly because a Reader feels that Mrs. Eddy's name might be mentioned too often? How necessary it is to assure hearers that the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy are the only preachers in a Christian Science church, and to announce our Leader's authorship of her outstandingly healing poems, as well as the Tenets of The Mother Church and "A Rule for Motives and Acts" from the Church Manual (pp. 15, 16 and Art. VIII, Sect. 1)!

With each such announcement comes the happy glow of authenticity—the good news that one is hearing genuine Christian Science. In The Mother Church one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns is also used at a Wednesday testimony meeting not less often than once a month. May these hymns ever be sung with that reverence which bespeaks a message coming with healing in its wings, to use Malachi's words.
