THE LESSON OF THE BIRDBATH

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Elizabeth was an eager little Christian Scientist. Ever since she was a tiny tot, her mother had taught her to rely on divine Love, and Elizabeth often worked out the problems that came to her without help from her mother.

One morning when she awakened she seemed unable to go to school. As she lay thinking about God, trying to realize her oneness with Him, she could hear the birds taking their morning dip in the birdbath in the garden just outside her window. How she loved to watch them as they frolicked in the water, ruffling their feathers and splashing the water over the side of the bath!

Suddenly she noticed a large round spot of light on the ceiling of her bedroom. First it was still, and then it started to dance and take all manner of shapes. Then it was still again. Once it disappeared almost entirely. Elizabeth watched the spot of light for some time, and when her mother came into the room called it to her attention.
