GOD LOOKS UPON THE HEART

God said,
"I have provided me a king among the sons of Jesse."
So Samuel stood, and would have chosen one
Of goodly face and stature, but the Lord said, No,
Who looks not on the outward man but on the heart.
Then David came,
His countenance moreover beautiful,
The true light of the Spirit shining there—
And he was chosen king.

O God, may we who strive to do Thy will
Know that the Lord still looks upon the heart,
That His reflected love still shines for all
And cheers the weary ones.
God-given speech can lift us from our trials,
Until we all are kings and priests to Thee.
