Christian Science has meant...
Christian Science has meant everything to me for over twenty years, but for a number of years I was not aware of the importance of being decisive about it. Since seeing that point and taking my stand for complete reliance on Truth I have had a more wholesome, harmonious, and healthful life.
For several years we sent our children to the Christian Science Sunday School because I was seeking a satisfactory understanding of God, but when they became ill I would call a doctor. Our youngest daughter was seriously stricken with pneumonia. After medical treatment for several weeks she recovered but was left in a very weakened condition. I was admonished by the physician that should she have a relapse it would very likely be fatal. It came, and for a moment I was paralyzed with fear. I knew that now I must make a decision as to whether I was to serve God or mammon. I called a practitioner, and in three days the child was completely healed. From that time on my faith in God never wavered, and I have had many healings through the years.
One summer while we were at the beach, our son, then eight years old, awakened one night in extreme pain with a stomach disorder. We had no telephone and could not call for help. We saw it was a challenge for us to turn wholeheartedly to God. Mrs. Eddy's comforting words from "Miscellaneous Writings" came to me (p. 277), "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." In a matter of about three hours our son was sound asleep, and he awoke in the morning completely well. This was a proof to me that no matter how little we feel we understand of Christian Science, when we sincerely and unreservedly turn to God the healing takes place. This boy has been in the service of his country and has been wonderfully protected and guided through his own utilization of the truths he learned in Sunday School.
