ARE WE EXERCISING MAN'S GOD-GIVEN DOMINION?

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 18), Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage. His mission was both individual and collective. He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals,—to show them how to do theirs, but not to do it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility."

Through the earnest study of Christian Science and faithful adherence to its definite scientific rules, each one may prove for himself man's unity with God, good, whereby—commensurate with his spiritual understanding—he is enabled progressively to demonstrate his God-reflected dominion over matter or evil, as did our great Way-shower.

When nearing the close of his earthly career, Christ Jesus comforted his disciples, saying (John 16:33), "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Step by step, the Master demonstrated the spiritual facts of being—God's allness as infinite Mind, Spirit, or Life, and man's spiritual, perfect, and immortal status as the son of God. Thus he attained the goal of complete spiritual dominion over evil—the world of material sense—and could no longer be seen by human eyes.
