My introduction to Christian Science...
My introduction to Christian Science occurred about forty years ago in the state of Illinois. My aunt had received much help physically from Science, and I occasionally attended the church services with her. Then my family moved to New York State, and we attended an orthodox church. Meantime I married and had two sons. Eight years ago, after a major operation which left me with phlebitis and the necessity of wearing an elastic bandage on my leg to prevent it from swelling. Christian Science was again presented to me.
Through the patient work of a consecrated practitioner, to whom I feel I was divinely directed. I was enabled to see the nothingness of the evil from which I had suffered. At this time I was also led to accept a position as manager of an order office, where I had to be on my feet all day long, besides walking over three long flights of stairs to my apartment twice daily. Nevertheless I took the bandage off my leg, to the consternation of well-meaning friends, and I have never had any more use for it.
When our two sons were called into the service, with the help of a practitioner I was soon able to loose them, and let them go. I often read from Science and Health (p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love. The Apostle John says: 'There is no fear in Love, but perfect Love casteth out fear.... He that feareth is not made perfect in Love.'" We are so grateful for the protection our sons experienced while in the service. I am indeed grateful for my slight understanding of Christian Science.
