Five Words with Understanding

Christ jesus, the master Metaphysician, never wasted time with idle words, but always spoke with the authority of spiritual understanding, each word having a specific meaning. In answer to the leper's cry for help, he said with assurance (Matt. 8:3), "I will; be thou clean."

The "I" which Jesus spoke of, was not himself as a human, but the Christ, the manifestation of God, which is ever present and always available to heal all disease. Jesus' understanding of his true selfhood as the reflection, or Son. of God was expressed in these words (John 10:30): "I and my Father are one." God's will operates with power, intelligence, and wisdom. To pray, "Thy will be done," is to surrender all human outlining and material trust. To do God's will is to trust the omnipotent, omnipresent Mind, from whom man is inseparable.

Jesus' admonition, "Be thou clean," indicated that the healing of leprosy, like all forms of disease, is accomplished by purification of thought. Mortal mind must be cleansed of its ungodly beliefs. It was not the words Jesus spoke, but his understanding of man's at-one-ment with God that constituted his healing power. Words proceed from thought, and when thought is an emanation of divine Mind the words which follow have all the authority of divine intelligence. But when mortal mind is the speaker, the words lack this divine quality and so are vain.
